The former director of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), Edvaldo Santana, will be the new president of the Brazilian Association of Large Energy Consumers and Free Consumers (Abrace). The name of the professor from Sergipe was approved by the Association's Board of Directors on Wednesday, November 16th. Santana will take over from Paulo Pedrosa, who left his post in May to take over as executive secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

With nearly 40 years of career in the electricity sector, Santana was director of Aneel for two consecutive terms, between 2005 and 2013, where he also served as Superintendent of Market Studies since 2000. He is retired full professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, where he headed the Department of Economics and coordinated the Postgraduate course in the same subject. He holds a master's and doctorate degree in Production Engineering from UFSC. Before working at Aneel, he worked at Eletrosul, as head of the Investment Analysis Division and at the National Department of Water and Electric Energy.

The professor met with the Abrace team in Brasília last Friday, November 18, and showed himself willing to take on the new challenge. Santana followed, at the first meeting, a presentation by the team on the main themes of the association's work in 2016 and next year. He will take over from November 28th.

Santana received greetings from the members of the Board of Directors, who placed their trust in the expert's work. “In this role, Edvaldo's main challenge is the search for a competitive and increasingly transparent scenario for the large consumers of energy and natural gas in Brazil”, said the president of the Board of Directors of Abrace, Claudia Zanchi.
