PLD TIME: ADEQUACY BEFORE SETTINGS

Scheduled to be implemented in Brazil as of January 1st in 2020, the Time Settlement Price for Differences (PLD) is still a topic of discussion among specialists. Industry professionals question the feasibility of implementation in 2020 and suggest a shadow operation next year, with the definitive implementation in 2021.

Anyway, companies that take care of energy management already need to adapt to correctly serve their customers, especially considering such a volatile market and with constant regulatory changes. This adjustment is even more important knowing that a significant portion of the financial result obtained by the client in the energy market is a direct reflection of the strategy defined in conjunction with its manager.

This change in the current rule should create opportunities within the energy market. As soon as energy changes in price from one hour to the next, it will be possible to identify the financial feasibility of an energy storage system, such as the one for batteries.

The Cotesa Group decided to go ahead and already has adequate tools and professionals who work from the sales area to the operation and dispatch of reservoirs and generation units. The area of management of consumers and generators has already ascertained the impact of this change on the different profiles of clients in its portfolio, using the shadow PLD disclosed by the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE) so far.

The two solutions applied in a synchronized manner by the Cotesa Group will benefit generation agents in the free market that seek to optimize their production costs, in addition to maximizing their revenues, within the best asset utilization curves.

In addition, a study will be carried out in partnership with the System Operation Center (COS) to raise the financial gain that can be delivered to customers operating in the daily generation regime of SHPs and CGHs under the group's management.

It is important to emphasize that CCEE does not work with the hypothesis of delay in the entry of the hourly PLD. The Chamber acted so that all necessary measures were adopted and with rules in force for January 2020.
