Distributed generation should add 8 GW in Brazil in 2022
Solar distributed generation in Brazil is expected to grow by approximately 8 GW in 2022, reaching a total of almost 16 GW of installed power. The sector expects to achieve, in one year, a result similar to that of the last decade.
Between 2012 and February 2022, distributed generation accumulated 9.4 GW of power in Brazil — of which 9.2 GW are from photovoltaic installations.
The optimism in relation to the sector has at least three fundamental reasons: the water crisis, which already last year heated up the demand for own energy generation; the approval of the distributed mini and micro generation framework; and the effects of the war in Ukraine on the price of oil and global inflation.
Last year, the country reached 807,200 photovoltaic installations, according to Aneel – a growth of 100% compared to December 2020.
To meet this increase, the Brazilian market demanded more than 9.7 GW in photovoltaic modules in 2021, both for DG and for centralized generation.
