The installed capacity in the National Interconnected System
The National Interconnected System (SIN) is the set of installations of generation assets and distribution networks that form a single electrically integrated system.
In the Brazilian hydro-thermal-wind system, hydroelectric plants are responsible for most of the generation, with more than 60% of the installed capacity.
However, the installed capacity of wind and solar power generation in Brazil shows the largest growth in recent years. Since January 2021, it has registered a record increase for the period in the entire historical series, from 4,942 MW to 27,766 MW of installed capacity.
As a function of the SIN, the assets in different regions act in an integrated way to bring light to all of Brazil by means of the interconnection of the subsystems. In this way, it is possible to verify the regions of greatest demand, propose the expansion and reinforcement of the transmission network, increasing operational security to avoid interruptions in supply.
